Preparing for Your PSM 1 Exam? Here's How to Pass on Your First Try
So, you have decided to take the Professional Scrum Master™ I (PSM 1) exam. It’s a big step for your career in the agile world and proves you have a solid understanding of the Scrum framework.
But the exam is not as simple as it looks. It requires a deep understanding of the official Scrum Guide, and with a high passing score of 85%, you need to be very well-prepared.
This guide will give you a clear plan to help you prepare effectively.

Why is the PSM 1 Exam So Tricky?
First, let's understand the challenge. The PSM 1 exam tests your practical understanding, not just memory.
It’s Not About Memorising: Many questions are situational. They give you a real-world problem and ask, "What should a Scrum Master do next?"
The Details Matter: The exam tests small but critical details. For example, knowing who is accountable versus who is responsible can make all the difference.
Time is Limited: With 80 questions in 60 minutes, you need to be quick and confident.
A Simple 4-Step Study Plan for Success

To pass, you need a good strategy. Here are four simple steps to follow.
Step 1: Master the Source Material This is the most important step. The entire exam is based on the 2020 Scrum Guide.
Read it at least 3-4 times.
Don't just read—try to understand the purpose behind every role, event, and artifact. Ask yourself, "Why does this exist?"
Step 2: See It in Action (With a Sample Question) The real exam has tricky questions. Here's a sample question like one you might face, to show you what we mean:
Sample Question: During the Daily Scrum, a Developer says they have no impediments. However, the Scrum Master notices they have been struggling with a task for three days. What should the Scrum Master do?
A. Tell the Developer's manager they are stuck.
B. Announce in the Daily Scrum that the Developer has an impediment.
C. Talk to the Developer privately after the meeting to see if they need help and coach them on the value of transparency.
D. Assign another Developer to help them.(The correct answer is C. This tests your understanding of the Scrum Master as a coach and the value of Openness, without overstepping the self-management of the Developers.)
Our quiz is filled with hundreds of these realistic, scenario-based questions.
Step 3: Find and Fix Your Weak Spots You can't improve what you don't measure. A good practice quiz is the best way to find out where you are making mistakes.
Take more and more PSM1 practice tests to get a baseline score.
Carefully review the explanation for every question you get wrong.
This will show you which areas of the Scrum Guide you need to reread and study more.

Step 4: Practice Consistently Don't try to study everything in one weekend.
Spend 30-45 minutes every day practicing.
Consistent, daily practice is much more effective than one long study session. It builds your confidence and makes the knowledge stick.
